Property: Practice Ground
Architect: TRIAS Studio
Design approach: Kit of Parts
Brief: To provide an architectural home that embraces energy efficiency, quality detail, a low site and environmental impact. The home is situated on a sensitive site beside World Heritage-listed Wollemi National Park, which affirmed prefab construction as the most suitable approach to minimise site disturbance and ensure the delivery of a home that would lightly touch the landscape. The property was named Practice Ground by its owners, which informs their commitment to continual curation and rejuvenation of the site.
Architect: TRIAS Studio
Design approach: Standard Minima ‘Two for One’ as a secondary dwelling; Minima ‘The Extra Bedroom’ as an extension of the primary residence; renovation and addition to the existing traditional farm residence. Hybrid on/off-grid.
Brief: To create a space for friends and family to retreat at their family weekender. Extending the property to include three independent structures that offer various levels of privacy. Improve the existing residence by installing a low-impact modular extension that disguises the contrast of new and old by linking the two with a glass walkway. The external landscape connects the structures with central courtyards and a swimming pool to congregate and socialise.

Design approach: Minima ‘The Extra Bedroom’ - Off-grid
Brief: The client was familiar with small space living and had relocated from a compact studio apartment in Sydney City. He purchased a plot of land on the Eucumbene River, 30 minutes from the NSW snowy mountains. Therefore, he must obtain a well-insulated, high-performing home to combat severe weather conditions. In its remote location, there were no services available, so we implemented the full suite of off-grid options to run the home, including a compact solar, battery, and inverter unit (installed and commissioned in the factory), composting toilet, fireplace, water harvesting, and filtration.

Design approach: Minima ‘The Original’
Brief: The home was purchased as a part-time residence on a rural plot. The owner’s vision was to buy an easily extended house. Minima’s ability to be extended with additional modules in the future met the brief perfectly.

Design approach: Minima ‘Two for One’
Brief: Part-time residence and somewhere quiet to retreat, write and work in the studio. Additional fixed panel windows were installed to bring the
Tasmanian landscape in.

Design approach: Minima ‘Home away from home’ – Off-grid
Brief: Minima ’Home away from home’ is situated on the same property as Courtyard House, with an established and undulated native landscape that provides separation and connection between the two structures. Both Courtyard House and Minima are available for short-term rental so that customers and those with a general interest can get a real-life experience of what the homes are like.
Architect: TRIAS
Design approach: Minima ‘Two for One’
Brief: Minima ‘Two for One’ is a permanent residence for a family of three built on a bushy site in the Blue Mountains. This triggered requirements to make the home to the maximum bushfire level. This was the first project where FABPREFAB deployed their Flame Zone Minima.
Architect: Atelier Marks
Design approach: Custom home
Brief: Awaiting architects’ response.
Architect: TRIAS
Design approach: Custom
Brief: Church Point House is a waterfront three-storey home. The client brief was to design a prefabricated home that would reduce time in construction and eliminate some of the complexities encountered with traditional construction methods on sloping sites. The home would establish a façade enabling water views from every room. Cross-laminated timber was utilised as a sustainable structure that brings warmth and a healthy living space for those who occupy it.
Design approach: Custom commercial building
Brief: Sydney Airport engaged us as part of a more significant development of one of their sites. The key to the project was to ensure the shortest possible build time frame. Modular construction enabled the site work to take place concurrently with the factory build, dramatically reducing the time required on site.
FABPREFAB produced the commercial building in 6 weeks, 2 weeks before the agreed completion date.
Architect: TRIAS
Design approach: Minima ‘Original’
Brief: With the house being a stone’s throw from Merewether Beach, our client installed Minima as a secondary dwelling that could embrace an indoor and outdoor mode of living. It doubles as a pool house and somewhere for international family members to stay and retreat for extended periods.
